台灣致力於制定降低檳榔使用的政策和措施，以減少口腔癌發生。根據國民健康署指出，國際癌症研究機構(IARC)於今年11月發布戒除檳榔能有效預防口腔癌。研究指出戒檳榔，可降低罹患口腔癌前病變及口腔癌的風險，戒檳榔後，每年口腔癌風險可降低2.3%至6.7%，戒檳榔10年後，風險最多可降低51%。

Areca nut chewing is one of the major causes of oral cancer. Taiwan government has conducted policies and measures to reduce oral cancer. The Taiwan Health Promotion Agency report noted a report from IACR in November, showing that cessation of the use of areca nut decreased the risk of OPMD and oral cancer. The risk reductions were 2.3 to 6.7% per year after cessation and approximately 51% for long-term cessation (≥10 years).
